An excerpt from Pursued By the Wolf (A Werewolf’s Curse #5)

“Um, I…” She cleared her throat. “I wanted to let you know that you could stay at my house tonight if you wanted.”

His eyebrows rose in a question. There was hope in his eyes.

The wrong kind of hope.

“With the storm and stuff.” She waved her hand through the air. “I thought if the roads get bad, you’ll need a place to crash. That’s all. I’m not thinking about anything else.” She blushed. “I have a spare bedroom. It’ll all be very…” She swallowed and pressed her hands to her hot cheeks. God, she shouldn’t have said that. Any of that. Sure, when she’d first come searching for him that had been her plan, but now? After that kiss? She should have left without saying anything. After the way she’d jumped on him, he would think she wanted him—well, okay, maybe that was true—but that kiss didn’t mean that she was buying into the idea of being his mate. “I shouldn’t have kissed you. That won’t happen again. I promise. Um, okay, then. That was all.”

With what she hoped was a decent amount of poise, she turned on her heel, walked to the door and stepped into the corridor. She didn’t even run or anything. When she was safely tucked around the corner, she grabbed the wall for support. Thank God no one could see her from here. Her blood was still rushing, her legs felt like Jell-O, and she could still taste him. She traced her tongue over her lips to relive, for a moment, that amazing kiss.

“I think we should talk.” His deep voice rumbled over her, sending delicious tingles through her already quivering nerves.

She jumped and spun toward him. “Why the hell are you sneaking up on me?”

It wasn’t the first time that he’d gone all stealth mode on her, reinforcing that he was the predator in this forest, not her, but it still made her irritable.

He grinned and shrugged.

“You don’t get to run away because we shared a kiss,” he said. He reached forward and drew his thumb over her bottom lip, right where her tongue had just been. “We used to share a lot more than that…”

His eyes gleamed as his gaze locked with hers.

Her stomach fluttered. When he took his hand away, she pinched her lips together.

“Lisa,” he said, “I want you to talk to me about this.”

And say what? That she was a heartbeat away from agreeing to be his sex slave for the rest of her life… or at least the next hour? “What are you afraid of?”
